LEITZ 1720 DIGITAL CRYOSTAT

The Leitz 1720 digital cryostat is a modern, high performance instrument for the production of frozen sections of fresh and fixed tissues. • Microtome:
  • The Leitz 1512K microtome at the heart of the cryostat was designed specifically for high performance and at the same time, to stand up to the rigorous conditions imposed by frozen section work. A robust construction incorporating corrosion-resistant materials ensures a long working life, and the high stability aided by the double knife clamp, allows reproducible section thicknesses of between 1 and 25 microns (in steps of 1 micron) to be produced. The transparent, unbreakable plastic anti-roll plate can be quickly and accurately aligned with the knife, once positioned, it is safeguarded against inadvertent movement..

• Freezing Chamber:
  • The open door design provides convenient access to the freezing chamber, which can be set to any temperature down to -35^o C. The specimen cooling is separately controlled, allowing the ideal sectioning temperature to be determined and maintained for the tissue in question. A digital display shows either the current chamber or specimen temperature (switchover at the touch of a button), and allows the sectioning conditions to be accurately reproduced. A further aid towards speed is the pre-cooler which can freeze up to three samples simultaneosly.

• Motor Drive:
  • The simple to use motor drive system built into the 1720 digital makes light work of hard specimens and series of sections, with no loss of quality. The optinum sectioning speed for the particular specimen and the return speed can be set independently of each other.
